If you have ever imagined a shipping container being turned into a tiny home, then the Nova cottage in Hocking Hills, Ohio is going to blow your mind! This luxury tiny home destination is designed for your comfort all while utilizing an old shipping container as the base.

Built and setup in 2021, this cozy little cottage is in the heart of Hocking Hills and Lake Hope State Parks. The large lot with flat easy access is ideal for a private getaway. Rates begin at $226 per night via Airbnb.
From the moment you drive up, you will feel right at home. Black siding and awnings on both sides of the home offer protection from the elements while you sit and relax on a cozy rocking chair or in the back deck hot tub.
While not suitable for a wheelchair, the low step into the home does make this more accessible than many tiny homes. It’s also helpful to have a one-floor home with a bedroom on the main floor.
Inside this converted container, The Nova combines some modern and retro looks to create a welcoming atmosphere. This home includes a sofa and fireplce along with television at the front end of the home for your convenience.
There is plenty of room to relax and watch a movie or just lounge in front of the fire with a good book.
A simple kitchenette in the center of the home makes mealtimes easy. I especially love the addition of the bar seating at the end of the counter for that morning cup of coffee.
The front door enters right into the kitchen near the hall, while the back door is off the living area. One notable addition in this home is the larger windows to add natural light. Painting the walls and ceiling solid white also brings a brighter and more open feeling to the home.
Everything is provided for you to cerate or enjoy meals in comfort. Utensils, dinnerware, and a few additional items of cookware are handy on floating shelves.
I really love the addition of these hanging lamps above the kitchen sink. Recessed lighting is found throughout the home, but this really adds function and style to the space.
The apartment-sized refrigerator includes a freezer, so you can have those frozen dinners handy or a few pints of ice cream to cool off with after a long day exploring the local waterfalls.
Despite the lack of a traditional stove, you aren’t left without options. The well-stocked kitchen includes an induction cooktop, toaster oven, traditional toaster, microwave, slow cooker, and traditional coffee pot and single-serve Keurig options.
Making the most of a tiny space, this home welcomes you with everything needed without sacrificing any of the limited space.
A narrow hall past the kitchen takes you to the private bedroom and bathroom.
The bathroom includes this small shower, toilet, vanity, and extra storage for toiletries and linens. You are provided with towels and washcloths, so no worry about bringing your own.
The bedroom includes a queen-sized bed that fits snuggly against the wall. While a tight fit, there is still room for an end table and a bit of storage space. A wall-mounted television makes movie viewing easy and cozy.
The lamp on the storage table adds extra light in the darker end of the home. Plus, you’ll find added outlets here for convenient charging of phones or electronics.
While there is not a traditional closet in this bedroom, just inside the door is a wall bar with hangers as well as a small luggage rack for your suitcase. It’s small but suitable for one to two people on a weekend visit.
The back deck on this home is a wonderful addition. Black wicker furniture with cozy cushions offers up a nice seating area for enjoying an after dinner drink.
You’ll notice there is also an included propane gas grill as well as a firepit in the yard for whipping up burgers or making a few s’mores!
The favorite addition has to be this 4-person hot tub. Large, clean, and relaxing, it is definitely one of the bigger luxuries in this retreat cottage.
If you desire open space and privacy, you won’t be dissapointed. The beauty of this area is breathtaking, and you certainly have great views from your cottage.
A separate fire pit away from the home offers a fun place to relax and warm up on cool evenings or have fun with the kids making fire-roasted hot dogs or s’mores.
