If you’re looking for a unique and compact living space that’s perfect for hitting the road, look no further than this custom Skoolie conversion by Movable Roots. This was the team’s first custom Skoolie project. It brought new challenges with making living space functional in less than 18ft of length from the rear of the bus to the driver’s seat with no loft options.

If you are looking for the ultimate fun home on wheels, this is it. The idea of renovating a bus seems crazy to some, but in this case, it’s the perfect way to create the home you’ve been dreaming of.
Just inside the traditional front door are the two captain’s chairs. One sits back from the steps a bit but is still right there at the front so you can chat as you move, or use it for relaxation or even as a workspace.
The home is set up with seats at the front near the door, a dining nook on one side, a kitchen on the other side, and a small bathroom between the kitchen and back space that is storage, a seating area, and a bed in one.
Just off the kitchen is a small 2-seat dining area with storage benches and a pantry cabinet. This is perfect for mealtimes but is definitely the perfect work-at-home space if you are a digital nomad.
One of the things you will love about this build is that everything is so multi-functional.
The top of the stove even folds down and latches into place to keep everything secure while you move. And the passenger captain’s chair swivels around to become a desk chair where the butcher block extends as a table at the end of the counter.
The kitchen is small yet extremely functional with an LP Furrion oven/cooktop combo for cooking as well as a drop-in sink with a cutting board to maximize countertop space and a 12V Furrion 10 cubic foot fridge/freezer.
Just look at all of that extra storage above and below the counter!
The 17 square foot bathroom has a custom vanity cabinet with a beautiful vessel sink, Separett composting “weekender” toilet, and stainless steel lined shower. At the rear of the skoolie there is a small custom built-in closet as well as bench seating that converts into a queen bed for sleeping and offers additional storage space.
The team also added a 42″ deck off the rear of the bus to hold the client’s generator as well as their scooter during travel. Freshwater storage tanks and greywater tanks were also added for those days the client is off-grid. With all these features, this skoolie has everything you need for a comfortable and convenient lifestyle on the road.
The Movable Roots team did an excellent job in making the most of the limited space, with intelligent and functional design choices throughout the skoolie.
