The best things in life get better with age, at least that’s our philosophy and so we were excited to see a tiny house that’s been reincarnated for the fourth time since its humble beginnings in the 1940s. Originally built as part of Vanport Village this home was floated down the river to Sauvie Island after a massive flood ruined the village. It was then a goose-check station and later used as a rental home. Now, it’s owned by Jessica and Yianni, talented designers who are using it to show the value of reduction and reuse on their five-acre property.
The home was remodeled using mostly reclaimed materials and features an expansive living area with a gorgeous reclaimed wood wall. A wood-burning stove sits in the middle of the home by the oversized dining table giving you room to entertain several guests or to sit a large family.
On the other side of the dining room is this huge living room! The custom couches can sleep up to three people or give you seating for much more. But perhaps even more impressive is the full library wall! A loft sits on top of the library and the rest of the rooms are behind it.
Up the ladder is this cozy loft with room for a queen-sized bed. Sconces are mounted to the walls for light and you also have a functioning window to let natural light and air breeze through.
Back downstairs is an impressive bunkroom with space for the kiddos to dream away and they also have plenty of floor space to play on.
The bathroom holds another breathtaking element: a full-sized clawfoot tub! Large tiles surround the tub on the walls and the window looks out on the pretty land while you soak your cares away.
You also have a pedestal sink and flushable toilet surrounded by painted shiplap walls.
Outside, the home has a large deck which can function as an additional living space during warm seasons. You can also see the “living” green roof that they added to the home which helps with heating and cooling costs.
This home proves that you don’t have to build new to make a beautiful new beginning!
