We have featured a number of tiny houses in the past from French architect Baluchon, like the storybook-like Avonlea and the open and airy Ostara. Today, I want to share a 2018 model with you which the company has named “Le Petit Prince” (The Little Prince).
It has been quite some time since I have read The Little Prince, but I do recall a number of details about it. First of all, I can say that is a fabulous book which is rich with meaning. Secondly, I remember that the book featured characters who each lived quite literally on their own little worlds—miniature planets (or perhaps it was asteroids) the size of houses.
So “The Little Prince” seems to be a good name for an imaginative tiny house—one which also allows you to reside in your own world.
The siding of the home is partly comprised of zinc, which is a fascinating and practical choice. According to Baluchon, “Zinc is a durable material (life span of 80 to 100 years) waterproof, malleable and very aesthetic.”
Inside the house, there are many clever design features. Here you see wine storage which has been incorporated right into the kitchen cabinets. This is an impressive and surprising space-saving feature.
The interior of the home is a bright, open, cheerful space—a design element common among Baluchon houses. The light color of the wood used for the walls and the floor helps to make this possible, as does the large window in the door.
The house boasts some other large windows as well, like this one next to the dining table. The table is larger than many featured in tiny houses, and a great addition for anyone who really enjoys a nice sit-down meal with family or friends.
The loft is really spacious, with a wide open floor which can be used for storage or activities. And you haven’t even seen the bed yet …
Wow! Seriously, this loft is about twice as large as a lot of the lofts I have seen in other homes. The feeling of openness in the main living area continues in this space as well.
Here we have the kitchen seen from overhead. The small cooktop leaves plenty of counter space free for food prep, while the farmhouse-style sink offers a deep basin for washing up after a meal. On the far left, we see what I assume to be a mini-fridge.
I am not sure what kind of finishing has been done on the wood, but I really like how the natural colors and textures have been left exposed.
Drawing closer to the dining area at the foot of the stairs, you can appreciate the beautiful furnishings which help to complete the look of this home. Now I want to show you one of my favorite features …
Even if all this house had were the windows you’ve already seen, those would have been sufficient to keep it bright and open, but this huge window is nothing short of magnificent! Next to it is a comfortable seat where you can recline and enjoy the scenery, and across from it is the spice rack of any chef’s dreams.
You can see in this photo where the spice rack is situated along with the window seat. The window seat is just behind the stairs, while the spice rack is on the other side of that green wall in the back.
Another angle on the window seat shows you how it is pushed back in its own little nook. Underneath it there is some storage space.
The house includes some large closets leading into the bathroom.
That shower looks very comfortable and roomy! It also has a removable showerhead, which is a great feature that you don’t see all that often even in custom-built tiny houses. Under the window, a small rack holds bathroom supplies.
In this photo, you can check out the toilet as well as the shelf for overhead storage.
Here is another view of the spice rack. If you are into cooking, this house really has got you covered.
The décor in the house is really basic, with neutral colors which complement those of the home itself. This clock brings a nice contemporary touch to the wall.
