Tiny houses have only become trendy in recent years, so sometimes it is easy to forget that they have been around in one form or another for a very long time. Just think about igloos for example.
Actually, you can stay in a tiny igloo at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland. But these aren’t your traditional igloos made of ice. They are actually made out an even more surprising material—glass.
The hotel offers both large and small glass igloos. The small igloos have enough room for two people, while the larger ones are ideal for groups.
They don’t look overly private … but hey, that’s worth it when you can wake up to a view like this:
It looks almost like camping would if you could do it in total luxurious comfort.
If you book accommodations in one of the two-person igloos, you need to visit a separate building to use the shower or sauna (there is however a toilet). But if you book one of the four-person igloos, you get a toilet and shower right inside the structure.
Imagine falling asleep with the northern lights playing overhead … staying in one of these tiny igloos would be a dream come true. The aurora season in this part of Finland lasts for an astounding eight months. The only downside is that you might be so mesmerized by the lights that you would forget all about going to sleep!
You can reserve a stay at one of Kakslauttanen’s tiny glass igloos anytime during the northern lights season. Usually that kicks off around August 24th and runs through the end of April. Visit the hotel’s website for more information or to book a reservation. Also be sure to take a look at the other accommodations which Kakslauttanen offers, including snow igloos and log chalets.
