Here Is An Unusual Use For a Grain Silo

Published: May 6, 2018 · Modified: May 6, 2018 by itiny · This post may contain affiliate links ·

At first glance, it might not be obvious what was used to construct this home. Then again, I sort of gave it away in the title of this short post.

kettle house

Yep. Someone took the top off of a grain silo, turned it upside down, built a foundation for it, and added doors and windows and even a small deck. A roof was added to the top, and some plants were put in next to it.

There is not a whole lot of information on the home. The shot comes from Flickr. The person who posted it decided to term it the “Kettle House.” It does look a bit like a kettle, so I can see where he is coming form with that. Reportedly it is on Galveston Island, and was able to survive Hurricane Ike.

If you read the comments, it sounds like the house is either abandoned, or the property is owned by is not being actively lived in.

Hopefully someday someone will adopt the quirky Kettle House and make it their own!
