The slant of the roof serves two purposes. Firstly, it helps snow to slide right off, making the house ideal for cold climates which get a lot of precipitation. Secondly, it provides for more openness inside.

I’m not totally certain what the function of the tray on the countertop is, but notice how it has the same yellow dot pattern as the pillow which is situated on the bench next to the desk.
