As anyone with aging parents can tell you, it’s hard sometimes to give the elderly the care they need while respecting their independence. Some have opted to live in nursing homes but a new concept gives them another alternative. The “Granny Pod” by MedCottages gives your family member a place to live close by while maintaining separate spaces and being close enough to give them care. These homes are 12 feet by 24 feet and can be plugged into existing plumbing and electrical works of the main house.

While these are tiny houses, they’re not just any tiny house. They’re built specifically with the safety and needs of seniors in mind. The homes have a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom but all are designed for convenience and safety as well as being handicapped accessible.
The bathroom features a large zero-entry shower with railings for safety and a bench with a detachable shower head for easy bathing.
You can have web cams installed to keep an eye on your family members and the floors are padded to be easy on achy joints. And to get really techy, the homes filter the air for contaminants and also remind the inhabitants to take their pills! They can also alert the caregiver of any issues such as a fall or emergency.
