Nicholas Gurney calls all of his projects XS – SML. It’s an appropriate name, as everything he works on is absolutely tiny. One amazing apartment to check out is his XS – SML 22 Square Meters.
This tiny apartment uses a unique “two steps” design. A raised platform occupies half the room. It can be reached via two steps, as you probably guessed. This approach augmented the available floor area by 11 square meters.
As you can see, there is storage located underneath the raised platform.
In fact, the entire bed can be stowed away:
Slide it across the floor, and it is all set up and ready for some cozy TV watching:
Yes, this storage is so deep that you can literally crawl inside. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. I’d love to know how far back you can crawl …
There is storage underneath the seats by the window too.
Because of their configurable design, these seats can easily be moved in front of the TV if desired.
A desk can be lowered in that same space. This would be perfect for working, eating, etc.
If you were wondering where the colors used in the apartment came from, they were inspired by the exterior. This makes for a sense of unity between the interior and the exterior of the living space.
I’m not sure I have ever seen so many clever storage solutions inside a single structure. This is tiny house design at its very best. I’d love to see some of these same brilliant ideas used in other tiny houses.
