When Steve of Winthrop, Washington was ready to retire, he set his eyes on a lakeside lot off of Big Twin Lake. Wanting to build as close to the water as possible, he poured a 20 foot by 20-foot slab and designed this cozy 400 square foot tiny house that’s completely self-sustainable. We have a feeling he’s going to enjoy retirement!
Built using a log post structure, the home features thick logs both inside and outside. The walls are covered with 1” of Styrofoam and then stucco for insulation and durability. Steve chose mostly handmade pieces to furnish his house and they all go nicely with the Mexican tile floors throughout the home.
The comfy couch gives you a great view of the lake through the sliding glass doors.
Instead of a dining table inside, he put a long bar in front of the picture window in the kitchen where two people can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while looking out at the lake. The kitchen is compact but it has everything Steve needed including an apartment-sized refrigerator, oven, and sink.
What mostly concerned Steve was the outdoor space where he knew he would spend most of his time which is why he put a lot of work into this gorgeous masonry stone wall that surrounds most of the home.
The covered porch gives him a place to enjoy the scenery when it rains, or he can go out by his fire pit for an even better view.
And when he’s ready to go fishing, he simply walks down to his private dock on the lake! Enjoy retirement, Steve!
