Kelly Christine is used to capturing beauty through the lens of her camera during her normal gig as a lifestyle and interior photographer so when it came time to design her own living space, she knew exactly what she wanted and how it would look. The 312 square foot house was built by American Tiny Houses and is full of bright light and modern appeal.
Inside, the home was painted crisp white throughout most of the house with dark and rustic hardwood floors and wood accents. Pops of color were added such as in the kitchen with the slate gray cabinets and in the bathroom with an unexpected teal wall.
Shiplap walls add texture and contrast to what could otherwise have been a boring color scheme. Décor was kept simple and minimalistic so as to not overwhelm the tiny house while still adding fun touches such as a horseshoe over the kitchen window and needle stitch artwork over the cooktop.
A white farmhouse sink was chosen for the tiny house as were hardy butcher block countertops. A stainless steel faucet crowns the sink and large windows let in fresh air and light while washing dishes.
The kitchen also has a compact oven and stove combo and plenty of storage space with both upper and lower cabinets and drawers.
Being a photographer, it was important to have a designated workspace for her large monitor that she uses while editing photos. Streamlined chairs are tucked under the desk and take up minimal space while being available for extra seating.
In this house, everything has its place – even the cat’s bowls! A ledge below the desk serves as the perfect spot for the family pet to grab a bite to eat out of the way.
A living room is tucked below the loft on one end of the home with room for a small sectional couch that doubles as a guest bed.
The living area is spacious with ample space for a large bookcase and a mounted TV. Adding an area rug helps the room feel defined and adds a cozy touch.
The deep couch provides plenty of room to spread out while watching TV and it also can be used for sleeping when needing. A floating shelf above the couch gives the couple a place to store their favorite books.
A nook was built below the staircase and serves as a side table without taking up valuable floor space.
A custom staircase hides the kitty’s litter box and also gives access to the bedroom in the loft without having to climb up a ladder.
The couple also made sure they had the perfect spot for their beloved records and record player which were tucked into cubbies below the stairs.
Upstairs, the bedroom is light and bright thanks to large windows on both sides of the loft. A full-sized bed is set up as well as built in shelves on the far wall to store more of their books.
As you can see, reading is important to the couple so they had to make sure there was plenty of storage!
Back downstairs, the bathroom is painted an unexpectedly dark and moody teal color that stands out in contrast to the white walls throughout the rest of the home.
A custom wood countertop and mirror as well as the white sink compliment the color of the walls beautifully.
The couple loves their tiny house and the life they’ve made with it and they made sure to utilize their outdoor spaces as well. Crochet chairs hang from custom frames while a seating area sits waiting for guests. They also planted flowers in large containers that were set along the side of the house.
The exterior of the house was stained to give it a light wood tone with white trim for a classic and welcoming look.
By arranging the wood in a chevron pattern on the end of the house, the couple added interest to the house without incorporating additional textiles.
