Remember when I featured the Crow by Blackbird Tiny Homes earlier this year? If you enjoyed the Crow as much as I did, you will love the treat I have in store for you today. The home I am sharing with you below is a customized version of the Crow with “a number of tweaks.” Let’s take a tour!

Kevin McConnach has been living in the tiny house with his wife for around two years now. Measuring 24’ x 8’, it provides them with 290 square feet of space.
Because the couple lives in Canada, they needed to make sure that their tiny house would be sturdy and warm enough to weather the harsh winters. Insulation in the floor and walls helps to keep heat in. Kevin adds, “Our small propane furnace does an incredible job of keeping the home warm during the winter because it is such a small, well insulated space.
There is a little desk beside the door where the two can work on their computers. It would also work as a breakfast bar.
The kitchen is equipped with a full oven and stove, a fridge, a two-basin sink, and a large countertop.
Much of the space above the counter has been given over to windows. The cabinets between them are narrow, but provide a little extra storage space without impinging on all that natural light.
Additional cabinets are located underneath the stairs which lead up to the larger of the two lofts.
A ladder leads up to the smaller loft, which isn’t actually all that “small.” It is roomy enough that it serves as an extra living space, not just a storage area.
Wow, that huge couch looks so comfortable! It almost looks like you could go to sleep on it without any need to convert it into a bed. There is storage space underneath.
It looks like they store some extra water underneath the desk. Actually, this is extra extra water, being as there is a huge water tank underneath the stove. The couple can rely on it for a full four days before they run out.
This can be helpful during the winters, since it is possible for the waterline to freeze. That being said, the hose is unlikely to do that being as it is heated. Kevin says that even if the temperature drops below -25 Celsius (13 Fahrenheit), the water still flows. That is pretty impressive! Meanwhile, it is possible to raise the water temperature using an Ecotemp tankless propane water heater.
So much storage!
Canada’s winters may be cold, but the summers can get hot. Thankfully, it isn’t hard to establish a cross-breeze through the windows.
The neutral colors of the house have a relaxing, centering effect.
This is the smaller of the two lofts, which the couple calls their “reading loft.” It is a cozy spot to read, meditate, or play the guitar.
Such a relaxing space … I imagine it would be one of my favorite spots in the house.

The main loft can fit in a large bed and still have a ton of floor space to spare. This is quite a luxury in a tiny house! I notice that the ceiling here is also a little higher than it is in many lofts. Two small shelves are set up to either side for storage. If the couple ever needs more, they could easily fit in additional shelves. But I can see the appeal in just leaving the floor open!
Looking across to the smaller loft, you can really appreciate how spacious this beautiful tiny house is.
The bathroom is lovely, and features a toilet design which is smart and pragmatic. Kevin explains, “Pee goes out with the grey water, #2 plops into a bag inside of a bucket. The bucket is vented to the outdoors to prevent any odours. Very happy with this model.”
As simple as this sounds, as someone who lives in an RV, I can tell you that it is genius. I (and plenty of other people in tiny abodes) tend to just rely on public toilets because of the plumbing issues which can come with “#2,” but this bag-in-bucket system would totally solve the problem!
Check out the deck—it’s incredible! Kevin says, “The deck outside was built with mobility in mind. It very easily breaks up into 6 pieces and can be loaded into a truck to move with our tiny home one day. The deck is “floating” – meaning that it sits on top of the earth rather than digging pilings to support it.”
