If you needed a home fast, what would you do? Most of us would check apartment listings, or maybe look for a used campervan. One snowboarder named Andy Bergin-Sperry took a different approach. He decided to build a home, and live in it while he worked on it.
Andy’s home had no insulation during the first winter he spent in it, and the interior was unfinished. Still, it was four walls, a roof, and a floor, and that was enough. He hung a hammock to sleep on, and kept his possessions on the floor. Once he got a job, he was able to complete the rest of the work. And now, it looks incredible.
Happily, it is functional as well. The insulation is complete, and the house has been fully waterproofed.
The dining room table flirts with genius; it folds up against the wall, keeping a low profile when it is not in use.
Andy normally cooks outside, but when he wants to prepare his meals indoors, he has a functional kitchen with a mini-fridge and a double sink basin at his disposal.
Next to Andy’s bed is a gorgeous mural created by a friend. Andy admits that he does hit his head on the low ceiling—but the mural is a great reminder that freedom is worth some sacrifices.
