Tiny houses may only recently have become a major trend, but they have been around for a really long time in one form or another. One cool example of a picturesque tiny house which has been standing for decades is this one in Serbia.
The house stands on a rock in the Drina River close to the town of Bajina Basta.
The idea for the house was conceived in 1968. There were some swimmers who frequented the area. They liked to rest on the rock, but it wasn’t very comfortable, so they added a few boards, and started lying on those.
Then they got to thinking that it would be nice to have some shade, so they decided that they would build an actual house on the rock.
The swimmers used boats in order to transport the materials and tools they needed to the rock so they could begin construction. They also used a clever trick where they simply deposited some of the supplies in the water upriver, then waited for them to drift downriver toward the rock. When they arrived, they grabbed them.
The tiny structure may look delicate and precarious, but it is actually quite sturdy and well-built. It has stood up to some seriously harsh weather over the past 45 years, including some floods.
