Recently I discovered a Dutch tiny house company called Tiny House Belgium. The company’s founder is a talented guy named Louis, who worked on his first tiny house when he was just 16 years old. It’s called the California House—and it’s quite amazing.
Louis was visiting the United States, and needed an affordable place to stay. He was offered lodgings in return for his assistance building a tiny house.
He decided to accept the offer. It turned out to be quite a big job. The house actually started out life as an old trailer. The trailer needed to be stripped so that the chassis could be used as a base for the new home.
It turned out to be worth it, though, because the result was beautiful:
Here’s the living room. The warm wood tones, the bright colors of the furnishings, and the sun through the big windows combine to create a welcoming, homey atmosphere.
The kitchen features a large counter. The overhead storage is simple, functional, and stylish, blending in well with the walls.
While the loft is quite tiny, it enlarges the living space.
Two twin beds can actually be squeezed in up here. There is even some shelving in the back and a little bit of floor space for extra storage.
This cat looks quite content. And what cat wouldn’t, living in such a delightful little home?

… and a different perspective on the kitchen. Take note of the shelf squeezed in on the side of the cabinet. It’s surprising you don’t see this more with tiny kitchens.
I’m not clear on whether or not this is a second bedroom, or whether we are still looking at the same loft, just with a larger bed in it.
Louis began working on the tiny house at the tail end of April. It took him until the end of June to finish the home, so in total, that was around two months of work.
Of course, the most amazing thing that Louis built during that time wasn’t the California Tiny House—it was the idea for a business. Louis loved building the house, and his experience was part of what inspired him to start his own Tiny House Belgium company.
