Lately it seems like Mother Nature has been going crazy. We’ve had not one but several record-setting hurricanes in a row now. Chances are good that you know one or more people who have been caught in the middle of one.
Your average tiny house certainly isn’t ready to withstand gale-force winds and buckets of rain. This may lead you to wonder if there are any hurricane-proof tiny houses out there. Actually, there are a few which have been designed specifically to withstand hurricanes, one of those being the Cubicco Classic.
This tiny house is stylishly minimal, but the reasons to choose it go far beyond aesthetics if you live in a hurricane-prone region like Miami Dade. Engineered with cutting edge materials and technology, it is a pre-engineered house built to withstand winds up to 180 miles per hour.
This means that it fits within the hurricane zone code of Miami Dade County. While the house is prefabricated, it is not shipped out for self-building. It can only be assembled by certified builders who have been trained by Cubicco. This ensures that Cubicco Classic homes are compliant.
You can tell how sturdy this house is from this shot. If I were stuck in the middle of a hurricane, this is probably where I’d want to be.
Cubicco contracts only with builders who will be erecting 10 homes or more within a planned community.
Several different floor plans are available. The basic one includes a main house which is 685 square feet and contains two bedrooms and one bathroom. There is also a beach cabana which can be attached to add a porch and 125 square feet of additional space.
Exterior features which protect the home from hurricane-force winds include impact doors and windows. The home comes with a modern flat roof by default, but a pitched roof is available as an option. Additional systems include R45 assembly insulation and central air. You can also opt for a rainwater harvesting system, solar energy, water heating, and a vertical garden.
Inside, the tiny house has a very open feel with a unified flow of space from one room to the next. Finishes used throughout the home include porcelain tile, quartz countertops, window trim, plumbing fixtures and recessed lighting.
The kitchen is small but impressive. Stainless steel makes for a modern, sleek look. There is a large fridge and sink, a full size oven, a microwave, and a lot of counter space. Copious storage is available in the cabinets as well.
Two twin beds are squeezed into this tiny bedroom along with a desk by the window. This is a really smart way to maximize the living space in the room.
Here is a look at the other bedroom. Again, not a ton of space in here, but it looks very cozy.
The bathroom is just beautiful. Lots of space and light make this a pleasant space, and the shower has a surprising amount of shelf room.

I actually think this is one of the most appealing rooms in the home. The shelves set into the walls are particularly clever, and it surprises me I don’t see this design more often.
