What would it be like to live in your own tiny log house? Find out by joining us on a tour of “Chen Up,” a beautiful little creation by Incredible Tiny Homes.
Measuring 9’ x 28’, the house weighs in at around 15,120 pounds.
Round Log/D-Log siding is the distinctive rustic feature which defines the exterior of the home.
Even with its small profile, the house contains three bedrooms.
You can see that the windows of the house are smaller than many of those on other tiny houses, but this is preferable for those who prioritize privacy over views.
The interior features white walls with a contrasting hardwood floor.
Kitchens in houses by Incredible Tiny Homes tend to be on the simple and basic side, but they found room in this one for a full oven with cooktop and a double sink with a high faucet. There is enough room for a microwave, or you could just stick with the oven and cooktop and leave that counter space empty.
Double sink basin are starting to show up more often in tiny kitchen design. I can understand why a lot of builders still opt for a single large farmhouse sink, but in my opinion, having a basin for washing and another for drying makes it easier to do dishes even if those basins are smaller.
Across from the kitchen counter with the sink is the fridge and freezer, cleverly placed underneath the ladder and step leading up to the loft above.
With the size of this fridge, you will have plenty of room to store your food, saving trips to the grocery store.
This looks like an ideal spot for a toaster, coffee maker, microwave, or some combination thereof.
You will find no lack of storage in this simple kitchen layout.
Here we have a counter and some shelves with lots of space underneath, as well as a window. I am not sure what its intended purpose is, but it would make a good breakfast bar or desk.
The bathroom vanity looks to have been custom-designed to fit in this corner.
You can get a good look at the shower shelves in this photo.
Okay, so despite my previous thoughts, the counter is located not in the main living area or a bedroom (as I thought), but in the bathroom. Thus, it would not make a good breakfast bar or desk.
I must admit to being somewhat flummoxed by this mysterious bathroom feature. The shelves could obviously be used for toiletries, but the purpose of the counter is not clear to me since you cannot put a mirror where there is a window.
You can see the bathroom’s flush toilet here. There is a lot of space around it, which is nice.
Back in the kitchen, you can see the view looking toward the opposite end of the house.
A sliding barn door opens on another room, and above it, there is a loft. Like the bathroom, the living room features wood trim that contrasts with the white walls, and matches the wood ceiling.
This trim is also found around the front door.
Approaching the downstairs bedroom and the loft up above, we can get a better look at both.
This bench looks like it opens up to offer significant storage space.
It is not entirely clear what room this is, but I believe it is the downstairs bedroom, given that the ceiling is painted white. There are many shelves available for storage.
Sliding barn doors are both decorative and practical.
You can get a wonderful look here at the polished wood ceiling and the fan above the kitchen and main living space.
Here we must be up in one of the lofts.
This is a helpful perspective, because it shows you how both the lofts sit in relation to each other on the second floor. Because they have walls screening them off from the main living space, they offer some degree of privacy.
One could increase the sense of privacy and also make the best use of the space on top of the walls by piling up books or arranging other decor. It occurs to me that a movable screen would also be a useful feature in a loft like this since one could simply block off the opening leading to the steps when desired.
The view looking up from the ground floor really does give you a good idea of how much privacy the wall provides for the occupant of the loft. Because it is not walled off entirely, it keeps the living space from feeling too constricted, but from a visual perspective, the person inside the loft does have their own space for the most part.
Just for your reference, in case you didn’t do the math yourself, 9’ x 28’ is only 252 square feet.
That 252 square feet is presumably the footprint of the house without the floor space provided by both lofts. Even so, the fact that the space has been arranged to provide three separate bedrooms, a workable kitchen, and a surprisingly spacious bathroom is impressive.
The space under the step next to the fridge boasts a surprise.
Perhaps you guessed that those were all cabinets, but I did not!
While the one large step on top of the fridge is unusual, it works!
I do worry it might be slippery though.
The loft is spacious indeed.
I wonder if that is meant to serve as the headboard (of sorts) for a bed. If what you placed here was a low futon, that might work.
Were you wondering what the house would look like once it has been decorated and outfitted with more appliances? Here you can see the kitchen with some décor, and a flat-screen TV mounted on one of the loft walls.
While the TV appears to be “cleverly” situated on the loft wall, I have to say I am not sure why, ergonomically-speaking, this is a good placement.
You can see what the bathroom looks like with a shower curtain here. While it does appear less roomy this way, it still has plenty of space.
This sheds some light on the intended purpose of the counter in the bathroom. The washer and dryer units are located underneath it, and it appears to have been custom-constructed at just the perfect height for these particular machines. You could put your laundry soap up here, fold clothes on the counter, etc.
There is even enough space between the toilet and the washer and dryer unit for a laundry basket. I had been trying to figure out what to do with that extra space, and that is the perfect use for it.
I like how the orange flowers on display in the kitchen draw attention to the wood trim, which has kind of an orangey hue.
I also had been wondering where to position a couch to watch the TV. I still think that the TV is located too high, but the couch is directly across from it, so that is good. But I actually imagine the most comfy place to watch the TV from would be the opening leading to the opposite loft (this one).
The loft looks just lovely with a bed in it! And check out all that floor space!
A slight change to this layout which I’d like is if the openings to the lofts were staggered on opposite sides. Why? Because then you could hypothetically watch the TV across the way from your bed.
