After discussing, planning, and dreaming for years, Kathi and Jim MacNaughton were finally ready to build their tiny house and so they contacted the talented team at Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses. Together, they made plans for a 28-foot long tiny house on wheels that’s full of clever storage ideas that we can all learn from! But first, take a look at the pretty exterior of their home. We love the way stripes were formed by alternating shades of stain on the cedar lap siding.
Inside, the home was given a contemporary style and made use of beetle kill pine, cedar, oak plywood, and salvaged barn wood to add texture and interest. The ceilings were made extra-tall with a slight pitch and windows and sliding glass doors were added to bring in natural light.
The home was named “Harmony Haven” and was truly customized to the couple’s needs and specifications with smart storage ideas like the storage staircase and furniture that opens to reveal storage compartments.
The living room is below the loft and features a large L-shaped couch that was built in and given tons of hidden storage everywhere possible, including the arms!
The staircase holds the couple’s clothing items and it also has a built-in washer/dryer machine.
Two large lofts are at the top of the staircase one of which is being used as a separate living space and for storage.
The other loft is set up as a bedroom with plenty of room for a large bed. Both lofts get ample natural light and fresh air thanks to the multiple windows found in each room.
Back downstairs, the kitchen has custom white cabinets with a crackled countertop and open shelving above for easy access to plates and cups. Hanging storage was added for pots and pans which frees up room in the cabinets.
Kathi and Jim love their new life in their tiny house and so they created a blog to share it with others. Go to http://livingtinyandsimple.com/ to check it out and follow their adventures in the Harmony Haven.
