Today I was looking through tiny hotels, and abruptly remembered the concept of the “capsule hotel” which is so popular in Japan, and starting to show up elsewhere around the world as well.
I decided to hunt for some really cool capsule hotels to share, and found the “Tubohotel” which is located in Tepoztlán, Morelos, south of Mexico City. This is not far from some famous ancient ruins. The town market is also very popular, so there is a lot to see and do in the area.
You can see that the Tubohotel follows the basic model of the traditional capsule hotel, except that each capsule is an individual unit. The tubes are stacked into pyramid shapes, but they do not actually share walls with each other, which is nice.
As this picture demonstrates, these are also larger than regular hotel capsules, which are traditionally designed with just enough room to sleep a single individual. More than one person can fit quite comfortably into one of these tubes.
Along with sleeping space, each tube is equipped with storage under the bed, towels and towel racks, a desk light, and a fan.
There are no bathrooms inside the individual tubes; for that, you need to go to a separate bathroom house. Showers are entirely private, even though they are in a communal building.
By daylight, you can see that the tubes feature bright, eclectic colors, and that different tubes have different color schemes. So if you have a strong preference while you are booking, you might want to make a specific request to get the ambiance you want.
This is one of the better pictures I found which helps you visualize what it is like inside one of the tubes. It looks like two people could sleep on one of those beds. The “storage” underneath the bed doesn’t include any cabinets or anything, but that is probably for the best. Just leaving the space open allows you to arrange your possessions however you want. You can also now see the curtains that can be pulled across for privacy.
