There is no formal cut-off point in terms of square footage where a tiny house becomes merely a “small home,” but most people put the upper end around 500 square feet. Most homes on wheels however are closer to 300 square feet. So I was delighted when I discovered one 40’ tiny house called the “Elmore” which actually contains an astonishing 500 square feet.
Even from the outside, it is obvious that this house is … well, big, at least for a tiny house. Highlights include a fun assortment of colors and a gorgeous large porch.
The home was custom-built by a company called Movable Roots (isn’t that a great name?). It has two lofts and a downstairs bedroom!
Here we see the living room and the kitchen. You’ve gotta love that comfortable-looking couch. I find the colors in this house are very soothing as well, especially that lovely muted green used in the kitchen. The colors are close to neutral, but still have some warmth and vitality in them.
Under the steps are storage drawers and cabinets, a washer and a dryer, and (I’m assuming) the fridge and freezer. I’ve never seen a refrigerator like this one, and wonder what its special features might be.
This photo of the living room makes it look even more spacious. One cool feature is the light on the ceiling, which is a work of art all on its own. Also look in the bottom right corner at the foot of the stairs. Here you can see feeding bowls for pets. I assume that these can be collapsed into the stairs when they are not needed.
This is one of the lofts. I am assuming it is the smaller of the two? A queen-sized bed can fit up here. The larger one is built to accommodate three twin-sized beds.
I am not sure if this is the same loft form a different angle, or if it is the other loft.
I am also not clear on which rooms we are looking at here. In any case, it is obvious that there is a lot of living space in this house, and much more privacy than is typical. This is an excellent feature for family living, especially with older children or teens.
Let’s take another look at that breathtaking porch. I just love this angle. It really shows off how it is a whole other functional outdoor “room.”
Imagine if you parked this home somewhere with lovely views. You could enjoy the scenery all around you without worrying about insects or rain.
Here is one last photo of the house’s exterior. Those warm, bright colors are just so amazing!
This home has a starting price of $120,000 listed on the Movable Roots website, so presumably you can commission one of your own if you want to enjoy this type of spacious tiny house luxury. Visit Movable Roots here. Additional photos are from Tiny House Swoon.
