Now and again I come across a tiny house that just blows my mind. The ones that really astound me do so not just because they feature beautiful architecture, but because there is a great story to go along with it.
Such is the case with “The Shed” Tiny House. The students at Andrews University School of Architecture, Art & Design usually would have gone on a mission trip to South America, but their professor thought it would be cool if they could stay and work on a project to help people in their community. So he challenged them to build a house that would fit within 148 square feet.
Here is the astounding tiny house they came up with. They designed and built the entire thing themselves.
Here is the exterior. As you can see, the house is on wheels and could easily be hitched and towed.
The kitchen is a warm and welcoming place featuring vibrant colors and a lovely view outside over the sink. I like how the windows push outward.
A small dining nook is located on the left next to another big window which lets in lots of natural light. On the right there is a set of steps leading up to the loft, complete with plenty of storage underneath—even a spot large enough to hang a few jackets.
Here is a better look at the dining nook; notice the clever storage under the seats. The other storage spaces could be used for items you need when you grab and go, or for décor.
Now we are looking toward the back at the bathroom. Don’t you just adore the cheery color of the front door? And notice that there is a second loft located in the back of the home.
Here is the bathroom, complete with a functional sink, toilet, and shower.
Taking a closer look at the storage, you can see there is also a space to leave your shoes.
This photo gives you a great idea what the lofts are like. We are in the loft over the bathroom looking across to the loft over the kitchen. These lofts do not offer much in the way of privacy, but they do offer plenty in the way of space. It would not be hard to modify the design to close them in a bit.
Taking another look back at the exterior, it is unbelievable just how much these students managed to pack into this little dwelling without making it feel even remotely cramped.
You can watch as it all comes together in this astonishing time-lapse video:
These students should be ridiculously proud of their achievements. I certainly never had a college project that was even remotely this awesome. The finished home really does look like it was put together by professional builders who had been working at this for years.
When I checked the official site for this remarkable tiny house, it was down, but hopefully, it will be back up and running soon. You can find the link below.
