Now and again, it isn’t just a tiny house that blows me away, but the amazing work that went into its creation. Such is the case with the “Moroccan Cottage” created by Tarus and Yolanda Nelson.
This 320-square-foot sustainable tiny house accommodation is located near MGM National Harbor in the DC metro area.
Believe it or not, this tiny smart home started its life as an ordinary shed before Tarus and Yolanda decided to turn it into a “Destination Resort” for visitors to the DC area. As you can see, it has its own little cabana with luxurious seating so that you can make the most of the outdoors. Right next to that is a grill if you want to cook out.
You can book a stay at the tiny house or even rent the entire grounds if you prefer.
There’s a swimming pool located in front of the cottage along with comfortable seating areas throughout the yard.
Screened in by high fences and beautiful foliage, it is a secluded spot to relax after a day of exploring everything that the nation’s capital has to offer.
The bright yellow door with the blue trim invites you to step inside and enjoy all that this little retreat has to offer. The colors are a match for the gorgeous designs on the siding, all of which were hand-painted by Yolanda herself.
It is a tranquil place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area.
Great thought and attention to detail have gone into making sure that guests have everything they need to kick back and relax on their vacations. There is a comfortable couch, a ton of storage, and entertainment options galore.
There is a large flatscreen TV across from the couch. When you stay here, you can access Netflix, Prime and other streaming services. Underneath the TV set is a selection of books if you have a more literary disposition.
Throughout the cottage are colorful decorative embellishments which are fitting with the Moroccan theme.
Another exciting feature of the cottage is a full kitchen where you can cook your meals on vacation. Included are a mini fridge and freezer, a microwave and a cooktop, along with a coffeemaker. With lots of counter space available, you will see how easy it can be to cook in a tiny house kitchen with a smart layout.
A sign above is a reminder to “Live Simply,” a motto which is expressed by every aspect of this tiny accommodation.
Between the kitchen and the living room, a rustic ladder leads to the loft.
There is a fireplace underneath the TV screen. From this angle, you also can glimpse the loft in the upper right at the top of the ladder, and see that it is located above the kitchen.
This photo may be the most helpful for showing off the layout of the tiny cottage.
The tiny cottage also has a small bathroom with a toilet, shelves, and a roomy stall with a glass wall and a removable showerhead.
Every furnishing in the home increases comfort while adding to the colorful Moroccan theme.
The loft features a separate TV.
The loft is so roomy with additional seating, wow!
The amazing amount of attention to detail in this tiny house is what makes it extra special.
Not only has the shed transformed, but you can see that the outdoor spaces also were completely redone. Before, there was no comfortable shaded cabana, just a couple of lounge chairs.
The couple used their construction skills to add to the shed while they were converting it.
Knowing what the interior looks like, you should be able to overlay the current appearance of the finished tiny house over what you see here. It is hard to believe that something so beautiful started so rough, and that this couple did all this amazing work themselves!
It really was just a shed. And now it is so much more.
Here is one of the photos which shows the original shed before it was painted with Yolanda going to work to transform it.
Yolanda and Tarus sure look proud of their work, and they should be. What they have achieved here is incredible, and it looks like a wonderful place to stay while exploring the DC area.
