Zen Tiny Homes is a company which is based in San Diego, and which used to be called “The Zen Cottages.” The company not only works hard to design beautiful homes, but also strives to make them legally livable.
On the Zen Tiny Homes site, the builder writes, “We have spent the past few years working with local governments to develop legal ways for people to live in Tiny Homes inside San Diego County and surrounding areas in Southern California. We have rigorously studied the code books, learned the laws and participated in our fair share of Zoning and Planning meetings.”
Pretty cool, right? Let’s take a look at one of their creations. According to their website, this one is known as the Alpine Tiny House.
The sky blue mixed with the natural wood siding seems to be a mainstay for the company. It is a good color scheme for San Diego, reflecting the color of blue skies and brown terrain.
Large windows ensure that plenty of San Diego sun is able to flood the interior of the home. From top to bottom, the environment is full of natural light. In this photo, you can see the kitchen and the steps leading to the loft, complete with a railing (a helpful feature too often neglected in tiny homes).
The open stairs are worth a closer look, because you will notice they differ from the more common design choice of doubling as a set of cabinets. True, it means less storage, but it also means more wide open space in the home. It seems like a pretty good tradeoff to me if you don’t need the storage. Visually, it translates to an uncluttered, simple space for uncluttered, simple living (well in keeping with the company’s “Zen” name).
The airiness of the living room is just amazing! This house has so much sunlight and fresh air in it that it practically seems weightless. The downside is that I have no clue where you could put a TV in the living room.
A closer look at the kitchen reveals two sink basins on the left, a cooktop and toaster under the window, and open counter on the right.
A wide couch provides you with plenty of space to sit comfortably and enjoy the fresh air and view through the front door.
I am absolutely in love with that little window seat. It is probably my favorite feature of the house. It’d make a perfect reading nook. If you had a cat, that’d also be a perfect spot for your pet to curl up for a nice long afternoon nap.
If you love this airy tiny house and want to buy one of your own, you can learn more about the Facebook post, which states that the houses start at just $25,000. That is an awesome price! You can also find out more or contact the builder at Zen Tiny Homes.
