Zack and Annie are a couple that were living in Arkansas who dreamed of living a life that allowed them to travel the country instead of spending most days at a desk from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. After securing jobs that allowed them to work remotely, the couple started doing research about converting school buses into tiny houses and decided that was the best plan for them. After finding a 2001 Thomas HDX school bus, they got to work and transformed the space into a modern and comfortable home.
By doing most of the construction themselves, they were able to save tons of money and make the home exactly what they wanted. The surfaces were painted white and dark wood lines the surfaces including the floors.
Custom built-in furniture lines the walls of the home including a deep couch, standing desk, and dog condo for their beloved pet.
Lola sleeps in a comfy bed next to the couch which also serves as a standing desk for the owners.
The couch is completely custom with thick padded cushions and tons of clever storage hidden in frame including cup holders, compartments for controllers and cords, and storage space.
The kitchen is across from the couch and features white cabinets, a deep sink, stove/oven combo, and a chest freezer hidden in the corner cabinet.
The freezer was chosen over a bulky refrigerator and makes use of what would otherwise had been a wasted space in the corner of the kitchen.
The bathroom is next to the kitchen and has storage built into the door, a composting toilet, and a shower stall.
The sleeping area is in the back of the bus where a king-sized bed is set up with windows surrounded the mattress.
What the couple has really loved about their new life is the community they’ve found while traveling. There’s a whole group of travelers called “Schoolies” that have converted buses into tiny houses so they often meet up with them to swap tips and stories.
