This next tiny house really pulled at our heart strings when we learned the story behind it. A sweet couple in Millersburg, Ohio who describe themselves as “old, idealistic dreamers, fresh out of youth,” wanted to downsize from their home but were in no rush to make the move. And so, over the next six years, they built a 450 square foot tiny house and worked on every square inch to make it their own and we love how eclectic and vibrant the home is!
The home is painted a light green shade with uneven wood siding and shingles in the eaves. A full garden greets you as you come up to the navy door and patio.
The home has elements that remind you grandma’s house like the patchwork quilts and vintage furniture and knickknacks. But they also made it special by hand painting designs around the home like on their stairs and on the ceiling in their bedroom. All of it together adds up to a charming place that we’d love to visit.
The living area has two large chairs covered in patchwork quilts with thick rugs covering the hardwood floors. The walls are painted an olive green which contrasts nicely against the white ceilings with wood accents.
The kitchen is next to the living room and is full of repurposed furniture painted in bright colors with fun details added like vintage posters and fruit-shaped magnets. A tall case displays some of their prized possessions while a cabinet holds the microwave and coffee maker.
Painted a mellow yellow with green and blue accents, this is one kitchen that we won’t forget! A slim stove is squeezed onto the end of the kitchen and a hanging organizer keeps pots and pans easy to grab but out of the way.
The bathroom is off of the kitchen and is full of character from the blue tiled floor to the navy walls and tiled shower. A lime green chandelier hangs down in the middle of the bathroom with a large skylight letting in natural light. The room is spacious with multiple purposes including a cat area, laundry room, and of course bathroom.
A composting toilet is in the corner of the bathroom surrounded by fish décor and next to a large window.
The shower is absolutely massive with custom tile work in blue and lime green.
Back in the living area, winding stairs take you up to the bedroom and were painted with suns and leaves for a natural motif.
Upstairs, the room is large with plenty of room for a bed and furniture. The ceiling is painted blue with yellow diamonds and large windows at the end of the room let in natural light and fresh air.
More vintage furniture fills the room and gives the couple storage for their clothing and personal items.
And of course, no “old couple’s” home is complete without rocking chairs on a deep porch! We can just picture them sitting here and shooting the breeze for hours.
We love the home that this couple built together and the fact that they took their time to make it their own.
