When Michael Anthony Lorence and his wife Diana decided to build their own retreat in the hills of northern California, they decided to build a home that was simple and timeless. The result was one of the most intimate and tranquil tiny houses we’ve ever seen!
The home is 12×12 and has about 144 square feet. With no electricity, the home is warmed by the cozy fireplace and is absolutely peaceful. Can you imagine the talks you could have in those chairs by the fire? It may be small but that’s really part of its charm!
The fireplace is framed with large beams and a brick hearth is big enough for extra seating in a pinch. The loft over the living area is reached by the movable ladder that can be scooted over when not in use.
Look at all of those books! It’s truly magical, isn’t it? We love that they custom designed this huge wall of books and how they showcase the couple’s passion for learning and literature.
The kitchen has a beautiful ceramic sink with warm wood cabinets and is lit by a candle at night.
In the loft, a simple mattress lies waiting for you to come snuggle on and the pitched roof with beautiful exposed beams gives you plenty of headroom.
A storage nook holds the couple’s coats and a few other essentials.
We think this tiny house is the picture of timeless romance! Couldn’t you imagine escaping with your loved one to the middle of the woods? That’s exactly what they did for seven years and we have a feeling their relationship was better for it.
