Luane Brauner, originally from East Germany, has now lived in New Zealand in a housetruck for many years. Her home looks over Golden bay, which is in the North of the South Island of New Zealand. On the property where she lives she has two structures both of which Jola Josie has made separate video blogs about. The first is a housetruck. This is her home, her kitchen and her lounge. The second is her art studio and guest bedroom.
Her home is made from cedar and was hand crafted in New Zealand by a furniture maker. The detailing of the cedar is carved like snack skin with small wood chips taken off the surface. This detail is throughout the housetruck, giving it character and charm.
In the housetruck there is a loft bedroom over the cab of the truck. This has a queen-sized bed. There is also a stained glass window, a view down to her art studio, a musical instrument decorating the wall, a bedside table and a stack of finished artwork.
Moving from the bedroom of the tiny house down the stairs you arrive into the lounge. The lounge is decorated with the snake skin cedar, shelves holding DVD’s, a stack of old suitcases which also doubles up as a storage space. There is also a table with the view of the day and a little sofa.
Further down is the kitchen. Here she has a gas stove accompanied by a fire place which she also makes food on. Her water system is hooked up to a stream near the house truck supplying her with an on going flow. All her cups, cutlery and kitchenware has it’s secure places so that if she wants to drive away with her home, nothing will fall and break.
At the back of the housetruck is where her wardrobe and bathroom is. While she is parked up this is not used. Instead she has a long drop (a pit toilet/ simple composting toilet) and a bush bath. For power she uses a solar panel.
