You may have noticed something about tiny homes, and that is that many of them are rather monochromatic—usually tending towards a light color like tan or white. There is a very simple reason for this, and that is that making everything a matching light color creates an illusion of extra space.
But that doesn’t mean that every tiny house has to follow this pattern in order to feel spacious. The right design choices coupled with some bold, surprising color schemes can create quite a unique look. And that brings us to the aptly-named Indigo House.
This design by Driftwood Homes USA repeats several different colors throughout the home, inside and out: indigo (of course), white, brown, and a couple shades of gold and tan. The startling contrasts created by these colors help to differentiate furniture and areas of the home. Let’s take a tour.
Here you can see the outside of the Indigo House. You can already see the color scheme here with the dark indigo siding, the bright tan orange door, and the white trim. The white trim really makes these colors “pop.”
Here is the kitchen. The wood back wall contrasts exquisitely with the white walls to either side. The kitchen cabinets are all indigo, and even the dishware is color-coordinated. The overall effect? Lovely.
This is an overhead shot of the same space looking down. This not only gives us a better feel for the kitchen, but also shows us part of the living area, where we again see the indigo, white and tan orange colors repeated on the couch and on the rug. You also get a look at the modern light fixture.
There are two bedrooms squeezed into this little domicile. One is down the hall across from the kitchen, the other is upstairs in the loft. Let’s go down the hall first.
Here is the view from the hall bedroom looking back toward the kitchen.
The bedspread and pillows feature the same color scheme used in the rest of the house.
Need more space? The bed can be collapsed against the wall, revealing a desk where you can work and enjoy the natural light through the windows.
Check out the beautiful tiles in the shower and the lovely décor accenting the bathroom.
Now let’s head upstairs into the loft. This room does stick with mostly white, but the back wall is the natural wood color, breaking up the space, and there are also some indigo and tan orange pillows adding a splash of color.
Here is one more view of the exterior. Now that you have been inside, you can really appreciate the exterior in a new way. The color scheme is so consistent that it unites the interior and exterior of the home into one seamless whole.
