Jamie and Brad Bigelow have always loved visiting their friends’ ranch in Florence, Arizona and dreamed of having their own place to stay when in the area. Not wanting to spend a lot of money on a second home, they decided to get creative and look at less obvious structures to renovate. Their final choice was an unexpected and definitely unusual one: a dumpster! You’d never guess this 176 square foot cozy home had such humble beginnings!
The old dumpster cost them $800 and since Brad is a general contractor, he did most of the work himself.
The tiny home now is a warm and open spot for the couple to rest while visiting the ranch. Inside, the house has a wood-burning stove and rich hardwood floors to warm the home. Exposed beams and a wood accent wall had architectural appeal to the simple structure.
Windows and doors were cut into the tough corrugated metal of the dumpster and antique green windows were put into place and added vintage charm. Antique pieces and décor were included throughout the home to further the “found” feeling of the home.
The home doesn’t have electricity or water but with the total cost being only $13,000 we still think it’s an incredible transformation! To see more of the couple’s work, follow them on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bigelowbuilt/.
