Clayton and Carol Hanchett live in Ohana, Oregon with their two small children. When they decided to downsize to a tiny house, they used the name of their town as inspiration. Ohana means family in the Hawaiian culture and the word encompasses the belief that families are bound together for life. This idea led to the unique design of their 400 square foot house which is made of two separate trailers connected by a common area or sunroom.

The home was designed with the help of Sunspace by Leisure Rooms of Wisconsin which really worked with the family and listened to their goals for the new home. The end result was a house featuring a “healthy kitchen” and a room that lets the parents comfortable co-sleep with their children. And at the heart of it all, a large sunroom which is perfect for enjoying a meal together or doing crafts.
The kitchen features company appliances including a washer/dryer combo. The small countertop space is filled with fresh fruits and vegetables making it a truly healthy kitchen.
The living space is cozy with plush rugs and a deep couch for the family to curl up on. Sheer curtains give the family privacy while still allowing natural light to filter through.
The bedroom is a peaceful sanctuary for the family with a full-sized bed and tons of natural light thanks to the large windows.
